Farmer’s wife is fed up with hardworking husband carrying the farm's load, while his brother slacks off at home, she uses app to hack into his TV, repeatedly switching his movie channels as petty payback for avoiding work: 'I watched him look so confused'

Brother in law doesn’t want to pull his share of work at the farm

My husband and his little brother both grew up on the family farm, and are in the process of transitioning ownership from FIL to the two of them.

My husband works his butt off, as one has to do if you're a farmer. Typically he works 70- 80 hours a week, (oftentimes more- rarely less) and is the brains behind the whole operation.
  • 04
BIL probably works 45-50 hours a week, and doesnt like to be told what to do, but doesn't want to ever take the initiative to do anything either.
  • 05
He wants to be the boss without actually being the boss. We just finished harvest, and it was such a pain to get him to do anything.
  • 06
So when it was late at night and my husband was still out working and I would see BIL's pickup at home next door, it was so frustrating!
  • 07
(we live in the middle of no where, but our houses are RIGHT by each other.

Yay, old farm houses) His wife and I do a lot of the bookkeeping, and since she still has babies at home, we work out of her house, which means I know her WiFi password.
  • 10
Since we live so close, sometimes my devices will stay connected to their WiFi when I get home if our WiFi isn't working super well.
  • 11
The other night, my husband was out fixing a problem at our dairy barn, and I looked out the window through BIL's living room window to see him watching a movie, and I just snapped.
  • 12
Both homes use Roku tvs, and I have used the app before when we couldn't find our remote.
  • 13
So I turned out the lights, connected to their WiFi, and then opened my roku app, which connected me to their TV.
  • 14
So while he was watching a movie, I randomly pressed the PBS kids channel on the app, so it would stream onto the TV.
  • 15
I watched BIL look so confused, and open the right channel to get his movie back on.
  • 16
After a few minutes, I did it again! And again. Then I did it again the following night!
  • 17
Watching him stress and take the batteries out of the remote brought me so much joy!

So if he wants to sit at home when there are millions of things to do and he wants to be a boss without doing the work, I'm going to have fun making his movie watching a little more difficult.

Dumb and petty, but man was it enjoyable!

FreshResult5684 I like it. Next send your little ones over to watch tv with uncle lazy

HeyWV132 If you can mute it. Then when he gets up to check the tv unmute just as he gets close. Then mute it again when he returns to his chair. Rinse and repeat.

kfj3000 Oh you should learn what the admin password to the wifi router is. Then you can block traffic to his devices as needed.

BeardsuptheWazoo I am in a very rural area with only two neighbors in a 3 house cluster. It's insane how close our houses are considering how much open space there is around us. I can relate to that.

hbernadettec Actually 40 to 50 hours is not lazy but, he should not be a farmer.
  • 26
turtleblossom469 45-50 hours isn't lazy. Sounds like you need a farm hand. Expecting people to work 7 days a week, 12 hours a day is pretty awful. Just cos your husband is a super hero doesn't mean everyone else can cope with that unrealistic workload for their whole life.

TheHobbyWaitress I've done something similar during Sunday football. All for my amusement from the kitchen to the living room tv while watching the reactions in a mirror.
